The Outward Bound Training in Chiangmai
Education is a process. MCC embraces the concept of international education and to that end the school organizes outward bound training to develop our students practical skills. This is the second report about the recent trip to Chiangmai, Thailand.
This activity challenges the individual. Students learn that they are challenging themselves as individuals without influence from others. It is all about attitude rather than skill level.
This activity is continuous altitude training. To complete the task students must follow the teacher’s instructions. During the training, some students did fall into the water below and some students are afraid to complete the task. In the end everyone completed the activity. From this activity students understand their potential and that success is possible once they take the first step.
The altitude training requires students to overcome their fears and transfer the tension they felt into motivation. During the activity the rest of the team gave encouragement, support and praised each other. This training allowed our students to understand the importance of group support and encouragement, creating a positive atmosphere within the team.
Canoeing combines physical strength with speed. Canoeing helped the students build on their team skills, making them aware of the importance of effective communication in team work. In addition, canoeing also teaches students to solve problems creatively.
Students cooperate with each other to carry canoes. After receiving instruction from the coach, the students learned quickly and enjoyed working together.
Students enjoyed canoeing. At MCC our aim is to foster in students the ability to learn new and different skills in both sports and games.
Everyone knows that water is the source of life. Chiangmai is a wonderful place with many beautiful views and during the week the students took part in a meaningful research program to study water quality. In class, students try to understand the theories and took part in group discussions.
Water resources issues is an important concern for every country, and through this water quality study, students can understand the importance of protecting the environment.
Students are observing and researching the water quality.
The outward bound training follows the spirit and educational ethos of Malvern which is to foster both the students’ individual development and their ability to work as a team. Team work is defined as individuals who have different skills, working towards the same goal, and through various methods reaching that goal. The ability to cooperate will help our students gain more opportunities in the future and to reach the result of 1+1>2.
Leadership skills are used in management, communication, marketing, team work and planning; the skills taught at the Chiangmai outward bound centre will help our students gain an holistic view and improve their management skills.
It is almost in the end of the trip, students send a painting as the present to coaches. They really gained a lot of knowledge in the training and this will be a wonderful memory for their whole life.
In the future, MCC will create and provide more opportunities for students in order to give various possibilities for students’ development.
