Dear parents and students:
Welcome to Malvern College Chengdu for the start of the 2022-2023 academic year.
I know that everyone is very disappointed by the delay to the start of the term. I hope that we will all be back together on campus very soon.
Since 1865, the Malvern family of schools has placed great emphasis on educating the whole person. The school not only focuses on the academic development of students, but also on the cultivation of their qualities.
In new academic year, we still recognise that every one of you is unique, with your own interests and strengths, whether in academics, the arts, or sport. Our role is to identify and develop these talents through a broad and holistic school curriculum. As an MCC student, you will be encouraged to participate in a wide variety of academic and co-curricular activities, take on leadership roles, develop an inquiring mind, become independent learners, and strive for excellence in everything you do. We also aim to instil good moral values, respect and understanding of the World history and culture, and an appreciation of the rewards that come from helping others. I am confident that this approach will give you the necessary skills to be productive and successful global talents.
The MCC team has great hopes for the new academic year. Our AS exam results were outstanding, some of the best I have seen in my teaching career. This allows our senior students to aim for the best universities across the world. The local Education Bureau has commented on the significant progress the school has made in our Chinses National Curriculum results at all levels. We aim to improve these even further while preparing our students for the international curriculum in senior school. Teacher training will focus on using the best student-centred pedagogy in our lessons from Early Years through to A-level.
Student recruitment has gone very well, and I am delighted to welcome some truly gifted and talented young people into the MCC family. I hope you will enjoy your time with us and that MCC will provide the stepping-stone to your dreams.
The school’s growth means we have many new teachers joining us this year. Some are old friends and colleagues, while others are experiencing the delights of Chengdu for the very first time. The secondary school is introducing two new courses, Computer Science and Drama, which I’m sure will be popular with our students.
In the coming academic year, we will continue to emphasise the Malvern Qualities in all we do, further develop our ‘Five Centres of Excellence’, and make full use of the Malvern family of schools to open up cross-campus collaboration and exchange opportunities. The role of technology will be a focus for 2022-2023 as we strive to become a Microsoft Showcase School.
I believe that Malvern College Chengdu is one of the best private schools of its kind in Southwest China and beyond. Thank you for joining us on the next stage of our exciting journey and for putting your trust in MCC. Looking forward to meeting you all at Malvern College Chengdu.
Best wishes,
Dr. Jill Cowie
Head of School at Malvern College Chengdu
